CPS Announces New Assistant Principal

The Corbin Independent School District is pleased to announce the selection of Tonya Proffitt as the new Corbin Primary School Assistance Principal, effective January 2016.

Proffitt was announced as the new Corbin Primary assistant principal at a reception held October 7 at Corbin Primary School. 

"Being selected as the assistant principal at Corbin Primary is such an honor and blessing. I am excited to begin this new adventure in my career and am anxious to join the CPS family in January." Proffitt said. 

CHS Students Place in Art Competition

Corbin High School art students placed in the Region Ossoli Women’s Art Contest. 

Corbin High School Junior Ariel Cline placed first in needlework and painting and will advance to the state art contest in the spring. Cline also received second place in pen and ink drawing. Senior Charleen Holly placed third for her ceramic Horse Sculpture. All entries into the competition were created in Corbin High School art classes in 2015. Cline entered three pieces, Holly entered one piece, and Senior Sloan Lowans entered one piece.

23 Acres Donated to Corbin Schools

Terry and Marion Forcht donated 23 acres of property to the Corbin Independent School District. 

The property is adjacent to the Corbin High School outdoor classroom. The donation will help the high school to expand their outdoor learning center. 

CHS Senior Leads Military Support Project

Corbin High School Senior Lawson Woods headed up a project in support of his brother-in-law, who is a Marine about to be sent overseas. 

Woods approached teachers at Corbin High School as well as across the district asking for letters of support for his brother-in-law, Shea Ramsden, as he departs for his third deployment.

Corbin School District Ranks 5th in State

The Corbin Independent School District ranked 5th out of 173 Kentucky School Districts according to testing data released by the state on Friday. 

The Corbin School District was listed in the 98th percentile in the state and will continue to be recognized as a Distinguished District. A Distinguished District is classified as any school district scoring between the 90th and 99th percentile in the state.
