The Corbin Board of Education Announces New Superintendent

The Corbin Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of David Cox as the new Superintendent for the Corbin Independent School District, effective January 1, 2016.

The Corbin Board of Education appointed Cox as the new Superintendent at a special called Board Meeting on November 23, 2015.

Cox has been a part of the Corbin Independent School District since 1992 and currently serves as the district’s Assistant Superintendent. Cox previously served as the Director of Academic Services at the Corbin Independent School District for four years, Principal at Corbin Middle School for six years, Assistant Principal at Corbin Middle School for five years, and taught at Corbin Middle School for five years. Prior to joining the Corbin Independent School District, Cox worked as a Revenue Officer for the Internal Revenue Service.
Cox, a 1978 graduate of Corbin High School, has a strong loyalty to the Corbin Independent School District. He is familiar with day-to-day operations of the Corbin school system and has been directly involved with the continuous improvement of the district. Recently, Cox has been involved with the implementation of Corbin Schools dual credit program, law enforcement academy, new teacher induction program, and non-traditional day program. Cox possesses strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents and community members. He contains the experience and dedication needed to continue leading the district forward in reaching goals and increasing student achievement.

“After an intensive search process, the man with integrity, experience, humility, and the heart of a Redhound was the Best choice for our next Superintendent,” Corbin Board of Education Chairperson Kim Croley said.

Cox holds a Superintendent Certification from Eastern Kentucky University, a Director of Pupil Personnel Certification from Eastern Kentucky University, Rank I Education from Union College, a Master of Arts in History from Union College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocational Teaching from Eastern Kentucky University.

Cox will replace Superintendent Ed McNeel who is set to retire January 1, 2016. McNeel has been the superintendent of the Corbin Independent School District for 23 years.
