The Corbin School District hosted a special luncheon for Corbin High School seniors named College and/or Career Ready. The district distributed more than $3,500 worth of donated prizes to the students. More than 80 prizes were awarded at the luncheon.
87% of the graduating seniors achieved college and/or career readiness (CCR) status this year. This is the largest number of College and/or Career Ready seniors in the history of Corbin High School.
“Being college and career ready means Corbin High School is helping students get prepared for college and for life,” Corbin High School Principal John Crawford said. “I applaud our students, teachers, ACT partners, AIM mentors, counselors, and assistant principals for this accomplishment. Our CCR scores provide a sense of great pride for our school and our community.”
Based on the state accountability formula, Corbin High School for the second year in a row has reached the maximum College and Career Ready score of “100”. The high school hopes to once again be named #1 in the state in regards to CCR.
Students achieve College and/or Career Readiness status by meeting ACT benchmarks, passing KYOTE, COMPASS, and KOSSA career tests, or earning Industry Certifications. College ready students will not be required to take remedial classes in college and career ready students are recognized by more than 500 companies/corporations in the state.
At the luncheon, the seniors received College and/or Career Readiness cords to wear at graduation. They also enjoyed a cook out and the prize drawings. Nearly 1/2 of the CCR seniors received a prize. The main prizes included a Chromebook, beats headphones, two flat screen TVs, and $500 cash. Corbin Schools would like to thank the third annual College and Career Readiness luncheon sponsors: Petrey and Newcob Orthodontics, The Lillie Long Foundation, Tri-County Chamber of Commerce, Forcht Bank, Hometown Bank, Marr, Miller, and Myers, Froyoz, and Southeast South Central Educational Cooperative.
