A representative from the University of Kentucky’s College of Engineering spoke to Corbin High School and Corbin Area Technology Students regarding the engineering school. Any students interested in engineering were invited to attend the event.
Corbin High School currently has approximately 100 students enrolled in the Project Lead the Way Engineering pathway. The representative, Monica Nielsen a UK college of engineering student, spoke regarding several aspects of the UK program including requirements for enrollment, an explanation of each engineering major, and life at UK as an engineering student.
“Ms. Nielsen did an excellent job explaining that engineering school isn’t just for highly intelligent students. Anyone who is willing to work hard can be successful and earn a good living with an engineering degree.” Corbin Area Technology PLTW Teacher Roger Taylor said.
The main purpose of the event was to explain the engineering major and allow students to begin thinking of their future career choices. Nielsen encouraged students to visit and tour the engineering facilities at UK as well as other schools. The UK engineering program has an excellent set up with brand new engineering dorms, co-op opportunities, and a reputation as a top notch school.
