Distinguished retired educators Janice Chandler and Robert V. Griffis from Huntington, West Virginia, made a special visit to Corbin schools. They were traveling in the area and stopped to congratulate Corbin Superintendent Ed McNeel on his upcoming retirement.
Ms. Chandler was the state’s Outstanding Music Educator, displayed through the highly recognized performances by her show choral, The Lads & Lassies, at Huntington East High School. In her retirement, she has continued conducting several musical groups that include numerous performances at the famous Greenbrier Hotel.
Robert Griffis was a visionary and curriculum leader for Cabell County Schools, implementing many futuristic initiatives. He was instrumental in the design of an effective middle school program.
Superintendent McNeel reflected, “Bob Griffis was my mentor and boss for several years and under his leadership I was allowed to explore, experience, and be exposed to how BEST to achieve student academic success. Many of the ideas in Corbin are a reflection of the curriculum and instructional ideas from his leadership. Janice Chandler set the teaching standard of excellence for the performing arts, an area Corbin staff and programs have grown to excel!”
