The Corbin Area Technology Center Criminal Justice students visited the Kentucky State Police Central Forensic Laboratory in Frankfort, Kentucky.
All Criminal Justice students were invited to visit the lab and approximately 65 students attended the trip. During the visit, the students got the opportunity to see hands on lab work being performed by Criminal Justice lab technicians from cases all across Kentucky. These cases ranged from murders and assault to arson cases.
“This trip gave the students an opportunity to see real time, hands on work as well as the different types of employment opportunities in the Criminal Justice field,” Criminal Justice Teacher Tackett Wilson said. “The main purpose of the trip was to educate students and show them different career pathways in the Criminal Justice system.”
The students got the opportunity to tour the laboratory and were able to view numerous departments including Blood Alcohol, Toxicology, Breath Alcohol Maintenance, Solid Dose Drugs, Trace/GSR/Arson, Firearms/Toolmarks/Imprint Evidence, DNA Casework, DNA Database, Photo, and Polygraph.
This is the first year Criminal Justice classes have been offered to Corbin High School and Corbin Area Technology Center students. The program plans to make the trip an annual event.
