CMS Provides 18,903 Days of Clean Water for Children

Corbin Middle School’s student council helped to provide 18,903 days of clean water for children throughout the world.

The students were able to provide the clean water by partnering with UNICEF to run a school-wide water tap project. The project challenged students and staff members to sit their mobile devices down and be present with friends and family. To participate in the project the students visited the project webage, tapproject.org, through a mobile device and placed it face down on a stationary surface. The site then timed how long the device remained untouched, for every 5 minutes the device remained stationary UNICEF donated enough money for one full day of clean water for one child.

The student council turned the project into a competition between teams at the middle school. The Chargers team won the competition with 32,152 minutes, providing 6,430.4 days of clean water. Rising starts was a close second with 28,948 minutes, providing 5,789 days of clean water. The Chargers team received an ice cream party as a reward for earning the most minutes. The competition started March 21st and ran through March 31st.
