CHS Swim Team Wins 1st Region Title

The Corbin High School Swim Team won the regional tournament this year, with three relay teams and four individuals advancing to the state meet in Louisville, Kentucky last month.

The swimmers must place first or second in their event at region to advance to the state meet. The relay teams that advanced to state were the girls 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle relay.
Each relay team consists of four swimmers, the relay swimmers were Parker Herren, Megan Mills, Mattie Hopper, Kyra Meece, Elle Hayes, Emma McGraw, and Caroline Reedy. The individual qualifiers were Kyra Meece for the 200 and 500 freestyle, Parker Herren for the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke, Caleb Parker for the 50 freestyle, and Hailey Martin for diving. This is the first year Corbin Schools has had a student compete in the diving competition. Martin started her diving career from scratch and had learn to 11 different dives to qualify.

The Corbin Swim Team competed against 20 teams at the regional meet in Barbourville, Kentucky. This is the Corbin Swim Team’s first regional title. All of the Corbin swimmers were close to or swam their best times at the state meet, but fell just short of qualifying for the final round. 

The Corbin High School team competed in five invitational meets this season, winning four of the five. The team consists of approximately 30 Corbin High School students. This is the third year Corbin High School has had a swimming program.
